This year, I was appointed president of our club. In order to fulfill the important role of president of a venerable club celebrating its 71st anniversary, I am still immature, but I will do my best with the support of the members.
This year's RI president, Stephanie Urchick, is celebrating "Rotary Magic." When I was installing water purifiers in the Dominican Republic, the children who saw the dirty water turned into clean water said, "Show me the magic again," and the clean water changed the lives of the children and changed my life! Or so he thought. From this event, he recognized the magical power of Rotary to save many people, and he decided to raise this theme with the desire to expand it further.
However, this is the last year of the RI President's theme, and there will be no theme for the next year. RI is at a very important turning point. The decline in Rotary membership and the lack of awareness of Rotary around the world is a sad situation for Rotarians. Therefore, it can be said that there is an urgent need to find a way out of these problems.
Rotary International District 2790 Governor Shigeki Kangori asked clubs to create a three-year Rolling Target/Plan to promote the RI president's theme, "Rotary Magic," instead of the district theme. The 3-year Rolling Target/Plan has four major items, and each item has 6~9 specific targets, which will be clarified by numbers. We plan to set the number of results for the past three years and the target number from this fiscal year to the next three years, review them every year at the end of June 25, June 26, and June 27, and reconsider the target number for the next fiscal year. We're trying to make a concrete, big change.
I believe that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are fundamental to our Rotary clubs. It's important to be visually comparable, but I feel like Rotary is more spiritual, and it's a little different from what districts care about.
I would like to spend this precious year talking with many members, promoting friendship, and focusing on making the year complete. And I want to be proud to be a Rotarian and create life-changing Rotary magic.
Last but not least, I would like to express my gratitude to Daisuke Sumitomo, the chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and committee members who graciously accepted the role of secretary.
We look forward to your continued support and cooperation over the next year.
